New Covid Variant “XFG” Is Spreading Fast — Here’s What to Know

Health experts are closely monitoring a new Covid variant called XFG, also nicknamed “Stratus,” which is now spreading across several countries. While it’s not yet considered a major threat, cases linked to this variant are increasing quickly.

XFG is a hybrid strain that combines elements of earlier Omicron lineages. It was first detected earlier this year and has now been found in multiple regions, becoming one of the fastest-growing variants worldwide.

So far, reports show that symptoms remain similar to previous versions of the virus — sore throat, cough, congestion, fatigue, and mild fever. However, one symptom that’s being noticed more often is hoarseness or a dry, irritated throat.

Experts emphasize that current vaccines still appear to offer protection, especially against severe illness. They continue to recommend getting boosters, testing when sick, and staying home if symptomatic.

While XFG spreads quickly, there’s no clear evidence it causes more serious disease. Still, health officials urge people to stay cautious, practice good hygiene, and keep indoor spaces ventilated.

The situation is being monitored closely — but for now, calm awareness, not panic, is what’s needed most.
